First Meeting of 2020: A Visit from the President

January

On January 4, we were treated to a presentation by JASNA president Liz Philosophos Cooper, titled “Jane Austen: Working Woman” (left). This was followed by a curator-led tour of “Austen in Austin” by Janine Barchas (right). We were pleased to have some members of the JASNA North Texas region join our group for the tour. What a great way to start the year!

EMMA. Pre-Screening

February

Along with many other JASNA regions, ours was invited to attend a pre-screening of Autumn de Wilde’s film EMMA., the latest adaptation of the beloved novel. Some of our wonderful members showed up in Regency dress, so naturally, we outshone everyone else in the audience. And we even got some fun EMMA. swag!

Jane Austen Pub Quiz

March

For our Jane Austen Pub Quiz, we gathered at B.D. Riley’s Pub in Mueller for an authentic pub atmosphere. After three rounds of 10 questions each, the winners went home with their very own Jane Austen planters (left). And the rest of us went home thinking we need to brush up on our Jane Austen trivia…

Fun fact: B.D. Riley’s was originally constructed in Ireland and shipped over to be assembled here in Austin.

A (Virtual) Jane Austen Birthday Tea

December

We gathered on zoom to celebrate Jane Austen’s 245th birthday. We started off with a Jane Austen Christmas carol, followed by games (including a Regency drinking game – with tea, of course!), giveaways, and more!
